Mission Statement and Introduction
|
This internet-based service has a mission to sustain, preserve and enhance the Appalachian Heritage culture through online technology viewing, providing a networking system with others and disseminating information to the classroom and to the general public. This resource center's ambition is to raise awareness of the individualist spirit that has sustained this region. Appalachia has a distinctive cultural flavor. An untold wealth of artists, historical data and non-traditional culture ideas lie within the heights and inclines and hollows of the Blue Ridge, the Cumberland and the Allegheny mountains. At this point in history there is a need for "cultural transmission," the handing-down of Appalachian tradition and spirit to those who share the pride of their home country and to examine and inform the meaning of Appalachia's design to the outsider. The intent is to unveil the wisdom, ingenuity and individuality that so rightly adorns the people of the mountains. Appalachia from the inside out.
